About Me

This quotation, for which I haven’t been able to find an attribution, resonates:

Find three hobbies you love: one to make you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative.

Money: I program computers. I’m an independent contractor, so if you have a project, let’s talk! I have done lots of different languages and systems over the years, but I’m currently focused on highly functioning websites. I regularly use JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, Ruby, and the WordPress infrastructure.

See the sidebar for some examples of my work.

Exercise: I play racquetball, softball, and tennis, ride a bike often, and dance whenever possible.

Creative: I play mandolin, fiddle, accordion, guitar, and tenor banjo. I play traditional dance music in a number of styles: Cajun, Old-time, Contra, Trad Jazz, Waltz.

Usability Luddite: The name of this blog comes from my belief that the underlying functionality of a program is more important than demonstrating the newest widget. The trick is to figure out which innovations actually improve usability and which ones just get in the user’s way.
